Cead Mile Failte – A Hundred Thousand Welcomes!

On the 25th April1952 in the Carlton Hotel, Cannes, Ireland was proudly represented as a founding member at the first gathering of what we know today as Les Clefs d’Or, U.I.C.H, an organization that holds hospitality, service and friendship as it’s core values.

Today, those values are nowhere better represented than at the Concierge desks of the Irish hotels where the instantly recognizable Golden Keys are displayed on the uniforms of the dedicated professionals whose attention to care and detail allow them to provide the very finest of hospitality.

Irish Hospitality is renowned to be among the warmest, most welcoming in the world and the reason for this is quite simple, it’s in our DNA.

Hospitality was enshrined in the ancient laws of 7th Century Ireland. Brehon Law required that “you must welcome the stranger who comes to your door, you must feed and care for them and ask no questions”. To refuse to offer hospitality was to risk being shunned or even sanctioned. Through the centuries, this ancient code of hospitality has left such an indelible imprint on our character that visitors to Ireland can today rely on the friendliest most naturally genuine hosts to be had anywhere in the world.

To visit Ireland is to immerse yourself in ancient history, in myths, legends and music handed down through the generations. View the breathtaking landscapes that inspired the great writers and experience the birthplace of a diaspora that through literature, music, engineering cuisine and politics significantly influenced the countries where they settled. Most importantly, to find the key to it all, let your Clefs d’Or Concierge, with years of knowledge and experience and centuries of tradition guide you to making the most of your visit and show you the best hospitality in the world, Irish hospitality

“Walls for the wind,

A roof for the rain,

And drinks beside the fire-

Laughter to cheer you

And those you love near you,

And all that your heart may desire!”

-Irish blessing
