Tall Towers, Towering Trees: Vancouver’s Seamless Union of City and Nature

Choosing the next travel destination can be difficult. Do you choose a city with an abundantly diverse dining scene and world-class shops, where the pulse and hum of urban life are felt in every step and breath? Or do you head off the beaten path, allowing time to slow while getting lost among ancient trees, where the sound of the city fades and is replaced by birdsong and distant rushing waters?

In Vancouver, the answer is simple: there’s no need to choose.

Growing up in Vancouver, the privilege of having the best of both worlds at my doorstep has never been lost on me. One moment, you’re in the heart of a world-class city center, navigating the busy downtown streets buzzing with life. The next, wandering the winding wind sheltered trails of the North Shore mountains, perhaps even skiing down should the season and weather permit. There are few cities that allow for such an effortless shift.

Restaurants, like Bacchus Restaurant & Lounge at the Wedgewood Hotel & Spa, draw inspiration from the abundance of fresh seasonal produce and ingredients found in the Pacific Northwest, from global influences and the diverse cultures that call this city home. Boutiques and galleries invite exploration, while waterfront paths offer views that remind visitors how close the natural world truly is.

This proximity shapes the way Vancouver is experienced. To begin, I might recommend a leisurely walk along the city’s scenic seawall, perhaps with a freshly baked pastry and a coffee from Thierry, and a stop for lunch at Cardero’s to soak in the views of Coal Harbour and to enjoy the fresh seafood the city is so well known for. Afterwards, a short 30-minute drive will see you enjoying an afternoon wandering beneath towering cedars, firs, and hemlocks, navigating the diverse network of trails in Lighthouse Park, or perhaps a more leisurely and accessible stroll at the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park or a bike ride through Stanley Park. To end the day, reward yourself by experiencing the city’s incredibly diverse dining scene. Indulge in the Chef’s tasting menu at L’Abattoir.  Discover Haida-Gwaii Sablefish at Blue Water Cafe or the Canadian Prime Grade Beef at Black+Blue. Enjoy a nightcap to the tune of a live piano at Bacchus Lounge.

Regardless of what you choose, there is no right or wrong way to experience Vancouver. Here, luxury isn’t exclusively defined by designer brand stores or Michelin-starred dining, but by embracing the abundance of choice at your fingertips. It’s where fine-dining follows forest hikes, and luxury hotels serve as gateways to raw, unforgettable landscapes.

For those who visit Vancouver seeking breathtaking scenery and adventure, or fine-dining and bespoke shopping experiences, the reward is not only what they see, taste, and find, but how it feels to move fluidly between worlds. For those who want connection without sacrifice, comfort without detachment, and discovery without distance, I welcome you to Vancouver, and it’s my pleasure to be of assistance.

The Wedgewood Hotel & Spa

Nestled right in the heart of Downtown Vancouver, steps away from Robson Square and the Vancouver Art Gallery, world-class shops, and the city’s vibrant dining scene, you’ll find the Wedgewood Hotel & Spa. The hotel’s location makes exploring Vancouver effortless – whether you’re walking down to the waterfront for a stroll, exploring a museum or cultural landmark, catching a show, or heading to the Convention Centre for a conference.

A beautiful 83-room luxury boutique hotel, and a Relais & Chateaux property, the Wedgewood Hotel has been family owned and operated since it’s opening in 1984. That ownership is felt in the very fabric of the hotel, from its warm and inviting atmosphere, to the thoughtful and personal touches throughout the property. It’s a place where European-inspired elegance meets West Coast hospitality, and where visitors quickly feel less like tourists and more like returning friends and family.
