Your Key To Frankfurt, Love on Second Sight – 2020 Les Clefs d’Or Nominee – Germany

Frankfurt am Main love on second sight.

Welcome to Frankfurt am Main a city full of dissimilarities but still in perfect harmony. A city with a great diversity of international influences and strong historical roots at the same time. “Mainhatten” as the city is called because of its impressive skyline and its river “Main”, is well known to be the European financial center. However, let me show you the hidden jewels within this urban jungle.

Let’s start with a walk through the old town and one of the most important landmarks, the „Römer“ which is the town hall since the beginning of the 15 century. Millenniums of history surrounded by imposing skyscrapers this beautiful landmark is easy to overlook.

Stroll through the historical alleys which this remarkable district has to offer. The so called “ Neue Altstadt” is the center of the old town and definitely its highlight. This area has been renovated and rebuilt for several years and now shines in new splendor. In 2018 it has been reopened again and fascinates locals and visitors from around the world alike.

Around the corner, nestled between the “Neue Altstadt” and “Zeil”, Frankfurts main shopping street, you can find another hidden gem the ”Kleinmarkthalle”. It is a very popular indoor market situated a 5 minute’s walk away. It is a sheer heaven for culinary adventures, locals and the hard working society. Seasonal fruits, vegetables and other specialties from the region can be found there. For example the “Gref Völsings Rindswurst” which is a traditional Frankfurter beef sausage invented in 1894. Furthermore a great selection of international vendors offers sweets and other delicacies.

Nearby is the “Mainufer” which is the riverbank of Frankfurt and home to the most popular museums in town. My favorite place during a hot summer day and after lunch. Perfect ambience for a nice walk along the “Main” and a great view of the skyline. Enjoy a cold glass of “Ebbelwoi” (apple wine) while letting this beautiful scenery amaze you.

After a successful and productive day, treat yourself to some traditional local cuisine. We cross the river, heading towards “Sachsenhausen”. Being the largest neighborhood in Frankfurt it is almost a city within a city. This area is well- known for its authentic apple wine pubs. Choose between dozens of typical dishes from the Rhein-Main area such as the ”Handkäs mit Musik”, a sour milk cheese served with vinegar, onions, cumin and oil, mostly served with dark bread and some butter. Also, try “Grüne Soße” a cold sauce containing the typical seven herbs of the region.

One can say that we “Frankfurters” enjoy life to the fullest. We might be like our city-unique and diverse, with a great sense of humor and our heart on our tongue. Maybe it is not love on first sight but visit us, look behind the curtain and enjoy “Mainhattan” with all of its different sides.

Cosimo Soleto

The half Italian half German concierge with green sauce in his veins.

Frankfurt- my hometown is the best city to start my career in the hospitality industry. I picked one of the most historical hotels in town to do so - the Steigenberger Frankfurt Hof. Working with local legendary concierge Jürgen Carl, I first got in contact with the Les Clefs d ́Or. This encounter made me realize that I want to become a concierge myself. Three years later I had the chance to start as a Junior Concierge at The Westin Grand Frankfurt. In January 2018 I joined the organization of the Les Clefs d ́Or. In July 2019 I received the great opportunity to join the team of the Jumeirah Frankfurt. Being a concierge defines my personality and helped me to become the person I am today.

During my short career I was inspired and motivated by a lot of people. I want to give something back to them. Thank you for leading the way.
